The Language of the Heart. A Meditation Course with Derek Elliott

‘Explanations make many things clear, but love is only clear in silence’ Rumi

This is a course of six consecutive Friday evenings 19.30 to 21.00. The intention is for each participant to develop a consistent practice of their own in the intervening weeks. Resources will be offered to help this. This opportunity is open to anyone, whether starting out on a meditation journey or wanting to deepen or renew an existing practice. Practical help can be offered so that anyone can learn to sit in physical comfort.

There are two things I feel moved to say about meditation. Simply that it helps us to settle into the homeland of our own being and that there is boundless encouragement from our own nature for this to happen. What starts to unfold from a practice is the presence of the language of a heart inviting us to the primary intimacy of being human. We can come to meditation just as we are, without any need for addition.

I don’t offer meditation as a method or a style since we are our ‘method’.  The ‘fruit’ of meditation is already in us, as we are who we seek. It’s important to develop meditation as a regular practice, which is not the same thing as a task. I know it as an action of love, best approached with curiosity and kindness. During the course there is guidance, and we explore ways which help to settle us into an established practice. The emphasis is on what works for you, and there will be the opportunity to share insights and challenges during the course. My experience of events of this nature is that gathering in this way with other people really helps.
