This workshop is open to all levels of Iyengar Yoga Practitioners, but ideal for those with two plus years of practice.
The four and half hour workshop will be divided into two parts. The first part will be an interactive presentation on the underpinning Samkhya Philosophy that ties Yoga and Ayurveda together as sister sciences (both systematised by Patanjali). We will explore the Pancha Maha Bhutas (PMB, five great elements) and how these elements combine to form the Three Doshic Theory including the sub-doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Then we will ask the question “so what?”. Evaluating how the theory fits into practice in our personal diet and lifestyle. Including some specifics on Ayurvedic food combining.
We will take a short 30 minutes break to digest the presentation and prepare for the second part of the workshop, which will focus on our Asana and Pranayama practice. Here we will explore which Asana and Pranayama are best suited to mitigate the doshic imbalance during each season, better understand the three Doshas in our embodiment, both their increase and their decrease.
