Feet to Pelvis - Working from the Ground up with Katrin Heuser

The way we meet the ground shapes everything above. The feet are not only a structural foundation, but also a sensory gateway – informing balance, orientation, and how the body organises itself in gravity. When this base is unclear or under-supported, patterns of tension and compensation often travel upwards into the legs, pelvis, and spine.

In modern life, reduced contact with the ground, habitual footwear, and prolonged sitting can lead to disconnection in the feet and lower limbs. This may show up as instability, restricted movement, or holding patterns around the hips and pelvis. Over time, this can influence how we breathe, move, and regulate.

In this workshop, we will explore how to work from the ground up – using the feet and legs as an entry point into the whole system. Through Thai Yoga Massage techniques, we will look at how touch, rhythm, and weight can support clearer organisation through the lower body and invite a more responsive relationship with the pelvis.

We will work on:

  • Developing sensitivity and precision when working with the feet as a sensory and structural foundation

  • Understanding lower limb mechanics – how ankle, knee, and hip relate and influence one another

  • Using weight, rhythm, and direction of pressure to support grounding and stability

  • Exploring how patterns in the legs reflect and influence the pelvis

  • Working indirectly with the pelvic space through inner thighs, hips, sacrum, and breath

  • Creating continuity from feet to pelvis within a coherent treatment flow

This workshop is for floor-based bodyworkers (Thai Yoga Massage, Shiatsu, Ayurvedic massage etc). The majority of the time will be spent practising with one another, with space for observation, enquiry, and refinement. The workshop will also model how to hold a safe and trauma-informed space, particularly when working with areas that influence the pelvis and sense of support.

By the end, you will have a clear set of techniques and a stronger understanding of how to work from the ground up. This will support you in creating treatments that feel more organised, connected, and responsive – allowing the body to find greater stability, ease, and coherence.
