Support, Mobility, Release – The lower back is central to our sense of support and stability, yet it is also an area that can become easily overburdened. Long hours of sitting, stress, repetitive movements, or injury can contribute to pain and stiffness. Thai Massage offers a dynamic, whole-body approach to working with lower back discomfort, addressing not just the site of pain but the wider patterns of tension and restriction that often surround it.
In this workshop, we will explore rhythmic, rocking, and oscillatory techniques that support the lumbar region by encouraging movement, decompression, and nervous system regulation. You’ll learn how to work with fascia, joints, and soft tissues in ways that gently release holding patterns and restore a sense of integration and ease through the lower body.
We will work on:
Using rhythmic and oscillatory movements to decompress and mobilise the lower back
Techniques to release tension in the hips, pelvis, abdomen, and legs – key areas that influence lumbar health
Creating space and traction through gentle rocking and dynamic stretching
Understanding how to approach back pain in a safe, responsive, and trauma-informed way
Exploring the energetic and emotional dimensions of the lower back, including themes of support, fear, and vitality
This workshop is for floor-based bodyworkers (Thai Yoga Massage, Shiatsu, Ayurvedic massage etc). Most of our time will be spent practising with one another. The day will also model how to hold a supportive, attuned space for working with pain in a way that is empowering and non-invasive.
By the end, you will have a range of techniques and an approach to working with lower back pain that prioritises whole-body support, fluidity, and gentle release. These tools will help you support clients in finding more space, comfort, and resilience in their bodies and lives.
