Breath, Expansion, Vitality – The breath is at the core of life, yet many of us experience tension and restriction in the areas that support our breathing. Stress, emotional holding, sedentary lifestyles, and trauma can all contribute to shallow, uneven, or constricted breathing patterns. Thai Massage offers a holistic, embodied approach to working with the respiratory system, addressing not only the physical mechanics of breathing but also the deeper emotional and energetic layers that influence it.
In this workshop, we will explore dynamic, gentle techniques that encourage the expansion of the chest, diaphragm, and ribcage. Using rhythmic rocking, stretching, and mobilisation, you’ll learn how to facilitate ease in the body, encourage deeper breath capacity, and restore a sense of openness and vitality in the upper body.
We will work on:
Rhythmic rocking and oscillations to open the chest, ribs, and diaphragmTechniques to release tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back – areas that can restrict the breath
Exploring the connection between posture, breath, and emotional holding
Using dynamic stretching and traction to mobilise the ribcage and improve breathing patterns
Using a trauma-informed approach to working with the breath, including creating safety and trust in the space
Exploring the energetic and emotional dimensions of the breath, including themes of freedom, expression, and inner calm
This workshop is for floor-based bodyworkers (Thai Yoga Massage, Shiatsu, Ayurvedic massage, etc.) and will involve a combination of practical exercises and theory. We will also explore how to create a supportive, safe, and attuned environment for working with the breath in a way that is empowering and non-invasive.
By the end of the day, you will have a range of techniques for working with the respiratory system, fostering deep relaxation, openness, and a sense of vitality. These tools will help you support clients in unlocking the full potential of their breath, contributing to overall well-being and resilience in their bodies and lives.
